10 Questions with Deseo One

1.... who are your favorite artists?

there are so many artists and genres, it would be a really long list.  right now I've been studying a lot of Kuniyoshi.  He's a Japanese woodblock artist.

2.... do you offer workshops for artists?

no.  I consider myself a student of art.  and at the moment, I'm actually doing an apprenticeship to become a tattoo artist.

3.... what helps boost your creativity?

music, music videos, movies, art and other artists and artist friends. and coffee.

4.... what medium and tools do you use to create art?

my absolute favorite and main tool is a mechanical pencil.  I've used a lot of digital coloring, but like I mentioned, I'll be tattooing soon, so a lot of that will soon change.

5.... what helps you maintain focus and motivation when creating?

that's a good question. sometimes you kinda lose interest on a drawing while it's being done.  now, I just tell myself that it's ok if I'm not crazy about it, cause some else may be.  and that matters just as much.  and sometimes, the best surprises don't reveal in the artwork until the end.

6.... do you feel its important to follow your passion in your career?

it has to be.  because if I don't have the passion, there is no career.  and it's too late for me to become a brain surgeon or take up basketball and join the NBA.

7.... what is the secret to creating a great piece of art?

I don't consider my work great, but in my work, I try to take everything that inspires me.  I love art, so I  create, but don't want to recreate what I've already seen.  I create art that I would like to see, but haven't come across, if that makes any sense.

8.... where can people see your work (online, conventions or exhibits)?

for now, online.  once in a while I have something published in a book or magazine. but soon, you will see it on people's skin.

9.... was there a certain moment that you knew you wanted to be an artist?

art has been my #1 passion all my life, but finding my niche has been much like finding the answer to the purpose of life.  in other words, what purpose should my art serve?

10.... if you could give other artists one piece of advice what would it be?

the most frequent question aspiring artists ask me is, "what can I do to draw better".  there is nothing I can say to make people draw better.  the only thing they can do to improve is practice.
